Amy H. Sturgis (http://amyhsturgis.com) earned her Ph.D. in Intellectual History from Vanderbilt University, teaches Liberal Studies at Lenoir-Rhyne University, and specializes in Science Fiction/Fantasy and Indigenous American Studies. She is one of the staff members behind the Hugo Award-winning StarShipSofa podcast (http://starshipsofa.com) and the Editor in Chief of Hocus Pocus Comics (http://hpcomics.net). The author of four books and over fifty articles, and the editor of six books, Sturgis is a regular speaker at colleges and genre conventions across the United States, Canada, and England. She had been interviewed as a science fiction expert by NPR's State of the Nation, The Huffington Post, and a variety of other media outlets. In 2006, she was honored with the Imperishable Flame Award for J.R.R. Tolkien Scholarship, and in 2015, she was honored by the Los Angeles Press Club for "Best Magazine Review/Criticism/Column" for her Reason article "Not Your Parents' Dystopias: Millennial Fondness for Worlds Gone Wrong." Sturgis lives with her husband in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina.
